Dutile Iron
Gate Valve

Model WP4000

For indutrial water supplies, industrial and
agricultural uses, and most pumping applications

High quality ductile Iron used in manufacturing
reduces weight and therefore facilitates installation.

Specially designed shape of body, rubber lined
wedge, performance tested upper sealing system and unique valve coating eliminates all maintenance costs, even in extremely difficult working conditions.

I. Characteristics of uninterrupted water supply branching

The uninterrupted water-supply branching method offers the following  advantages:

1. Users will not be inconvenienced (because there is no water-supply cutoff)
2. There is no need to notify users about a water-supply cutoff, make the arrangements for water-
supply tanks, or spend a lot of time doing paperwork (with fire stations, other government offices).
3. There is no water (which collects during cutoff) wasted, or no need to clean the pipes by flushing
  after branching is over.
4. Offers a substantial saving in material and labor.

II. Advantages of divided T-clamp

Use COSMO valve, COSMO divided T-clamp, and/or COSMO special divided T-clamp for uninterrupted water-supply branching using COSMO borer.

1. The COSMO divided T-clamp perfectly fits the outer wall of the pipe; use of this T-pipe therefore
makes a section of pipe with a hole stronger than before the pipe was bored.
2. COSMO divided T-clamp is easy to use, as most pipes in this group can be separated into two
  portions.
3. The following shows the results of a test, demonstrating the effectiveness of the divided T-clamp
(tested at the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology.

 (a)  A pipe (100-mm bore) was placed on two support
points 1000 mm apart from each other. The pipe broke
when pressure (9 tons) was applied at its center.

 (b)  A pipe (100-mm bore) was set in the same manner
above, but with a hole (100-mm diameter) through the
        center.
The  pipe broke when pressure ( 4 tons) was applied at
        the center.

 (c)  A pipe with a hole is fitted with the divided T-clamp.
The pipe did not break even when pressure at the center
        was increased to 14 tons.

III. Principle of  the method

With the uninterrupted water-supply branching method, the operator uses a specially designed borer to attach a branch pipe to the main pipe without having to cut off the supply of water.
The main pipe is not cut off, vastly simplifying the procedures associated with the water work - and resulting in a great saving of time, cost and labor.

  1
Set the COSMO valve or divided T-clamp and sluice valve on the main pipe. Put the borer in place, and make sure that the sluice valve is open.
  2
Move the borer's cutter drill forward and cut out a hole through the wall of the main pipe.
  3
Retract the drill and close the sluice valve.
  4
Detach the borer. After branching is completed, open the sluice valve to let the water flow.

  Features
  1. Widely used in water supply and distribution work.
  2. Has a built-in automatic feeding mechanism, contributing to ease of
      operation.
  3. Aluminium allow case for strength and ease of carrying
  4. Able to make holes 75-200 mm in diameter when used with COSMO valves.

Insertion of sluice valve and plug in pipe branching for uninterrupted water-supply

Introduction

Since 1960, COSMO's insertion method has been widely used across the country as it ensures continuous water supply while branch pipe is being attached to the main pipe. This method has been the basis of many new improvements including the valve insertion method (for attaching the valve), plug insertion method (for installing a plug at any location along the pipe), a method for simultaneous water stopping and branching, and a free-branching method (the main pipe can be branched off in any direction). The range of application has been drastically widened by these methods, heightening the expectations for greater freedom in water work.

COSMO's technology is particularly suited to large-bore pipes and high-pressure water pipes. A pioneer in the field of nonstop water-supply pipe branching, COSMO honed its techniques on the basis of its rich experience and know-how to now be among the world's top class. It is no exaggeration to say that these techniques have revolutionized water work operations in Japan.

"Uniterrupted water-supply piping work under any circumstances" - this has been our long-held goal, which is now near to realization. We are truly grateful to our suppliers, customers and all those concerned for their continuing support in making our dreams come true.

I. Purpose of the insertion method

Whenever we receive an inquiry from water work operators about our insertion method, we try to learn how our customers intend to use the method before deciding on the best approach. So far, our insertion method has been used under the following conditions:

1.

When the main pipe (the one already laid) has no sluice valve and its maintenance is difficult.

2.

Whe the pipe needs to be bypassed because of the construction of structures (bridges, railway tracks, sewers,

etc) or expansion of roads and river ways.

3.

To minimize the area where a water supply is temporarily cut off.

4.

To relocate water pipes because of rezoning.

5.

To install a plug on the pipe after a decision on pipe removal is made.

II. Classification of the insertion method

1. Inserting a sluice valve
2. Inserting a butterfly valve
3. Inserting a switch valve
4. Inserting a plug
5. Branching a pipe with inserting a plug
6. Inserting an emergency cutoff valve with uniterrupted water supply
7. Inserting a strainer
8. Inserting a type 3 plug
9. COSMO CO valve

III. Principle

1. Plugs and valves can be put anywhere on the existing pipe without stopping the supply of water.
2. After the divided T-clamp is put on, a water pressure test is carried out to ensure water-tightness.
3. The use of the divided T-clamp enhances the strength of the pipe
4. The divided T-clamp can be used for any pipe type. Its installation is flexible; it can be put on the pipe under
  many different conditions.
